Our love of sweet drinks is making us sick!

Consuming too much sugar has been linked to weight gain and obesity, and this in turn leads to the development of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer and high blood pressure.

When it comes to the overconsumption of sugar, one of the main offenders are sweet drinks.

Sweet drinks like sodas, juices and energy drinks are packed with sugar. So much so, that one can of soda (375 ml can) can contain 40g of sugar (about 10 teaspoons of sugar), which means that a lone solitary can of soda exceeds WHO’s recommendation that children should consume less than 25 grams (or about 6 teaspoons) of sugar a day.
