About The Campaign

‘You’re Sweet Enough’

‘You’re Sweet Enough’ is a campaign led by Lake Health and Wellbeing to target a major cause of non-communicable diseases (NCDs)  in St Kitts and Nevis and the Eastern Caribbean – the overconsumption of sweet drinks.  Through this campaign, we will focus on pushing for Government policies that facilitate the public’s adoption of healthy drinking habits, sensitizing the public to the harms of sweet drinks and empowering the public to make healthy beverage choices.

"Reducing our addiction to sweet drinks is important in tackling the NCD crisis in St Kitts and Nevis, where 83% of deaths are due to these diseases. "
We believe we can reduce the public’s consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages through the following approaches:
  1.  Informing and educating the public about the harmful health effects of consuming sugar-sweetened beverages.
  2. Encouraging the consumption of water and unsweetened drinks through public health campaigns.
  3. Advocating for government policies that have a direct effect on reducing the consumption of SSBs
  4. Supporting the government’s action plan for the prevention of NCDs in St. Kitts and Nevis by working collaboratively to conduct research, lead public health campaigns and host events geared towards reducing SSB consumption.
  5. In the context of COVID-19, encouraging the public to be more proactive about maintaining a healthy weight since people living with obesity are at a higher risk of being hospitalized and experiencing poorer outcomes if infected with COVID-19. Furthermore, the pandemic increased the public’s exposure to obesity risk factors due to quarantine and isolation and this has further highlighted the need to tackle obesity and therefore explore approaches such as the reduction of the public’s SSB. consumption
