Welcome to the final episode of our “You’re Sweet Enough” Health Policy Miniseries! Throughout this series, we’ve explored the many benefits that could result from implementing government-enforced healthy food policies. These policies include imposing a tax on sugar-sweetened beverages (reducing the consumption of unhealthy sugary drinks), requiring front-of-package labelling (informing the public about what they are eating transparently), and increasing health education programs.
In today’s episode, we are joined by Dr Tiria Julius, a medical doctor and health advocate. Dr Julius emphasizes the crucial role individuals play in improving our country’s public health. While healthy policies are necessary, most non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are caused by lifestyle and dietary choices. This means that individuals can take a variety of actions to combat NCDs.
2. Increase our intake of healthy, natural foods while decreasing our consumption of unhealthy foods and beverages, thereby reducing the risk of developing NCDs.
